Product Description

Air Canada Pet Policy

Air Canada requires that your pet be accompanied by a certificate of good health, and that your pet is transported in an approved pet carrier or cargo crate.

Your veterinarian will be certifying that your pet is healthy enough to travel and is free of diseases communicable to humans. Air Canada also requires that you provide copies of the veterinary certificates and other documents required by the country to which you are traveling.

Your airline pet passport package includes:

  • Instructions, in cabin and cargo regulations, and other information for transporting your pet on Air Canada
  • Acclimation Certificate and instructions for its use (Optional - add $2.00)
  • Airline Veterinary Certificate and instructions
  • Pet Passport Folder - included with First Class Mail Delivery Options above
  • Unlimited Email Support

During periods of very cold weather, an acclimation certificate may also be required for pets traveling in cargo. On most airlines, pets are not accepted for transport in the cargo section of the airline when the ground temperature is below 45 degrees Fahrenheit (8 degrees Celsius) at any location on the itinerary UNLESS the pet has a veterinarian's statement of low temperature acclimation (Acclimation Certificate). ADD THIS ITEM FOR COLD WEATHER TRAVEL BY SELECTING THE OPTION ABOVE.

All instructions and Air Canada policies are verified at the time of order.

Additional forms can be self printed from the Email Attachment option. If ordering additional forms with First Class Mail Delivery Option, forms will receive a 30% discount.

There are no refunds on forms unless there is a problem with the information or forms provided.

  1. Requirements for forms

Posted by Tim Harris on 23rd Feb 2012

I would like to comment on TOTALLY UNNECESSARY's message. They do not say so, but it is probable that they were always taking their Shitzhu as 'excess baggage', in which case they never had reason to present the pet to an airline cargo counter. As excess baggage all that is required is the rabies certificate, as they say. However, if you present a pet to any competent airline cargo desk that does their job properly, they _will_ require a fit-to-fly certificate, a shippers certificate and possibly a security certificate. The rules are tightening all the time. So the advice of the Pet Travel Store is quite correct, to cover any eventuality. Remember - for peace of mind on the day, the man with the piece of paper has it over the man without the piece of paper.

  2. Totally Unnecessary

Posted by Unknown on 12th Feb 2011

We've travelled many times with our dog (shitzhu bichon frises cross) across north america Vancouver east to St Johns Newfoundland and Dawson Creek south to Tucson Az. We have never filled out any form regarding the dog for any airline nor been required to have a special form. The only thing we needed was a valid rabies certificate indicating the dog had been vacinated more than 30 days prior to crossing the border by our vet.

    RESPONSE:

Pet Travel has been in business over 15 years assisting the traveling pet owner with travel documents and more. While many travel documents are absolutely required, particularly for international travel, certain travel documents are not required, however, they are recommended to facilitate your trip. This is true primarily for domestic travel which lacks standardized practices as an industry and within specific airlines as well. Sometimes it is a matter of which agent you are dealing with, where one will review documents, and another may not. This happens internationally too. It is up to each individual whether they want to be over-prepared, have at least met minimum requirements, or attempt to travel without documents and have your travel plans ruined, or worse, having your pet at risk.

Pet Travel organizes, provides instructions (particularly important for complex itineraries), and has an immigration specialist available 7 days a week 365 days a year to help the pet owner. This service is available by email and is included in the cost of the forms. As well, many countries refer their inquiries to us for their own regulations. The US State Department also provides a direct link on their website to us. The US military mentions us in their pre-deployment briefings for those soldiers moving internationally with pets. Using Pet Travel provides peace of mind for a very small fee; we get it right.
